Shared Governance
Shared Governance means that policy decisions should be arrived at collaboratively, putting the primary responsibility for decision-making in the hands of those most affected by such decisions. Wisconsin is unique in that state law requires the university to be governed in a shared manner, giving students direct power to jointly run the university with administrators, faculty, and staff. Wisconsin is unique in that state statute 36.09(5) gives representation to academic staff, university staff, faculty, and students, who all take part in making significant decisions concerning the operation of the university.
